Thunder Rolls Adventure Race 2008
Team "Muscatine Multisport"
(Eric Furnas, Cindy Klebe, and Connie Mann)
"We Survived!! Honestly we all agree that the adventure race was without a doubt the hardest thing we have ever done, but at the same time, the most fun. The day was broken up into a mountain biking, trail running/hiking, rafting, and canoeing, all with a map and compass to find the way to about 22 checkpoints. We did about 32 miles of mountain biking, about 16 miles of running/hiking with about half on trails and roads and the other half literally blazing our own trail through thick timber, thorns, creeks, and steep slopes. The rafting and canoeing added about another 10 miles. There was also one point where we had to cross Pine Creek at the grist mill in Wild Cat Den by way of tyrolean traverse. We finished in 12 hours and 8 minutes. There were 63 teams from 8 states competing in both the 12 and 24-hour races. The top 24-hour teams were just amazing and the top three teams were competing against each other to win a series and $30,000.00.
